Reports out of New York declare the iconic Stonewall Inn is close to kaput.

A fundraising effort has been launched to bring the monumental space to the public again.

“We are reaching out because like many families and small businesses around the world, the Stonewall Inn is struggling. Our doors have been closed for over three months to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of patrons, staff and the community,” writes organizers of the campaign.

The fundraising — organized by multiple GoFundMe accounts — is for the bar’s operating costs and staff support

Stonewall became a National Monument in 2016. It was closed by the Park Service earlier this year due to COVID-19 concerns. Located in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, Stonewall Inn was the site of an uprising by the city’s gay community in the late 1960s.
