Fox News has a history of sharing misinformation and disinformation about the LGBT community.
Now the Human Rights Campaign has taken action against the conservative news outlet and removed its status as an LGBT-preferred employer.
Senior Press Secretary of HRC Aryn Fields claimed that Fox News’ coverage of the LGBT community is “perpetuating stigma and marginalization of trans and non-binary people,” according to The Hill.
“At a time when transgender people — especially transgender children — are under attack in statehouses across the country, rhetoric has real consequences,” Fields said.
HRC dropped the network’s Corporate Equality Index score from 100 to 75 due to the network hiring contributors who “continue to deny the existence of trans people, minimize the violence trans individuals face, refer to parents of LGBTQ+ youth as perverts, or equate leaders of LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusions efforts with sex offenders.”
“Each of these actions happened in the last 72 hours. Enough is enough,” Fields said.
However, Fox News defended itself telling The Hill that it offers a variety of LGBT benefits such as puberty blockers, reduction of thyroid chondroplasty or tracheal shave, and mastectomy surgery for adults. It also pointed out that they recently hired Caitlyn Jenner, a trans woman, as a contributor.
