It’s been over a month and homophobes are still attacking Cadbury’s Creme Egg Golden Goobilee commercial, going so far as to create a petition to take it down.

So far, 53,659 people have signed it.

Critics claim that the company is “selling sex to children” by showing two gay men sharing a chocolate egg, according to the New York Post.

Other complaints include the ad being offensive to those who share Christian beliefs in regards to Easter, and breaking current public health guidelines as the men are in close contact, a spokesperson for Advertising Standards Authority told MSN.

The petition created by CitizenGo claim that “if the couple in question were heterosexual, the advertisement would likely be prohibited, given the sexually explicit and graphic nature of the kiss,” but a Subway billboard advertisement that was released Jan. 11 features a heterosexual couple kissing and received no complaints, the spokesperson also said to MSN.

Cadbury said that it wanted to “spread a message of inclusion” by featuring a same-sex couple, according to a statement by a Cadbury spokesperson.

“We are proud of our Golden Goobilee advert which celebrates the many ways that everyone can enjoy a Cadbury Creme Egg. To illustrate this and showcase the joy our products bring, a clip of a real-life couple sharing a Cadbury Creme Egg was included in the advert.”

Callum Sterling, one of the men that was sharing the egg with his boyfriend, Dale K. Moran, said he’s proud that they are becoming “the faces of this moment,” and that the love they have received “totally outweighs the fear based negative comments,” in an Instagram post.
