Federal agents raided the Manhattan offices of the popular gay escort site RentBoy.com Tuesday as part of a money laundering and state prostitution investigation, NBC New York reports.

The website's CEO, Jeffrey Hurant, 50, along with six other employees were arrested, according to CBS New York.

Federal agents raided the building, located on 14th Street and 5th Avenue, carrying boxes of documents and computer servers out of the RentBoy.com headquarters. Authorities said millions of dollars were seized and the website's bank accounts were frozen.

RentBoy.com bills itself as the "world's largest male escort site" and according to authorities the site is a "worldwide social networking site of the male sex industry, where members pay fees to list and buy services," CBS New York writes.

The charges against Hurant and the other workers include money laundering and prostitution. Police said the CEO ran the website and Twitter account, where he was known as a "cyber pimp."

According to NBC New York, RentBoy.com's has more than 10,500 male users located in more than 2,100 cities worldwide. Escorts pay to advertise on the site and customers pay for access. Subscribers can find a rentboy or a masseur by searching through different countries and cities, as well as by age, rate, talents and physical features.

Federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security were involved in the raid because RentBoy.com operates in a number of countries around the globe. The New York Police Department also assisted in the bust.

RentBoy.com was founded by Jeff Davids and Melanie Nolan in 1997, according to Wikipedia, which lists Davids as CEO. Wiki also notes as of June 2009, RentBoy.com "employed 10 people in three offices and hosted 40,000 escort profiles."
