Gang Member On Parole In 2010 Hate Crime Wanted In Shooting

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police are looking for a gang member wanted in a shooting out on parole for a gruesome 2010 hate crime.

Police said Monday that Elmer Confresi was involved in the shooting of a man over the weekend in the Bronx. The victim was expected to survive.

Confresi is one of several Latin Kings who were involved in a hate crime assault in 2010 and was sentenced to four years in prison and five years of probation for attempted gang assault.

The anti-gay attack started when five Latin Kings members suspected that a prospective member was gay. Three men were beaten, robbed, tortured and sodomized with a plunger and baseball bat in that attack.

Confresi and others were arrested and pleaded guilty.
