In response to the numerous anti-trans bills introduced across America, a fundraiser was launched to help protect trans youth’s rights. 

The fund on pledge.to will provide money to organizations that provide services to trans youth and advocate for their rights, according to the page. These include the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition which addresses the inequities faced by the Black trans community, and Equality Florida, which is dedicated to securing equality for all LGBT people.

As of April 8, it raised $692,372 of its $1.5 million goal.

Many bills that target LGBT people, mostly trans, have been introduced and passed in the U.S.

Texas passed a bill that bans trans athletes from competing in sports teams that align with their gender identity. In fact, the state is suing the Biden administration for having policies that protect trans people.

Also in Texas, 130 books about gender and sexuality have been removed from the shelves, according to the Advocate. It is one of the largest book removals in the country, with 75% of them featuring LGBT characters.

In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill into law that prohibits classroom discussions on gender identity and sexual orientation in K-3. A group of LGBT students and activists have sued him over this law.

DeSantis also signed a proclamation declaring the runner-up of a swimming championship event as the “rightful winner” after Lia Thomas, a trans woman, won.

In Idaho, some lawmakers have proposed sending parents to life in prison for providing gender-affirming care to their children.

In South Dakota, Gov. Kristi Noem also signed an anti-trans sports law like Texas. In February, a reporter asked her opinion on the fact that nearly 90% of the LGBT community reported that they deal with anxiety or depression.

The governor appeared to be very confused.

“I don’t know,” Noem responded. “That makes me sad, and we should figure it out.”
