CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A former Juvenile Court magistrate judge has filed a $500,000 lawsuit against Hamilton County, accusing two co-workers of discriminating against her because she is gay.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/1X4Dtgb) the lawsuit says Judge Rob Philyaw and administrator Sam Mairs created a hostile work environment for Elizabeth Gentzler on several occasions by making homophobic jokes, avoiding her suggestions and transferring her to a different assignment without explanation, all of which ended in her September 2014 termination.
Gentzler says the problems began after she disclosed her sexual orientation to Philyaw in April 2013. The lawsuit says Gentzler attempted to smooth out the issues, but each attempt ended with Philyaw defending Mairs.
Mairs declined to comment to the Times Free Press. The newspaper couldn't reach Philyaw.
