A lesbian couple in Michigan had a physician allegedly deny service to their daughter because of their sexualities.
Jami and Krista Contreras brought their newborn baby in for its first check-up, according to PinkNews. After seeing Vesna Roi before their daughter was born, the pair was confused when another doctor came in to see their daughter.
The pair asked the doctor where Roi was and was told she prayed about it and decided not to see the couple’s child.
“We just looked at each other and said: “‘Did we hear that correctly,’” Krista said. “When we tell people about it, they don’t believe us. They say: ‘(Doctors) can’t do that. That’s not legal.’ And we say: ‘Yes it is.'”
Michigan is one of 26 states where there are no protections against sexual or gender discrimination, according to PinkNews.
