GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Three gay-rights advocates are charged with damaging property after confronting protesters outside a North Carolina fundraiser celebrating same-sex marriage and other social changes.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports (http://bit.ly/1vCIDHs ) the arrests Saturday night were outside an event for the Equality NC Foundation, part of a nonprofit group supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender North Carolinians.

About a dozen protesters from Christ Fellowship Church in Davidson yelled at people entering the fundraiser, attracting a crowd of about 70 LGBT supporters across the street. The groups began yelling at each other. Greensboro police called for reinforcements.

Two gay-rights supporters were arrested for grabbing signs from protesters. A third man was accused of spraying a liquid onto a generator.

The church protest group was cited for violating the city's noise ordinance.
