Teddy Geiger — a pop artist who came out as trans last year — just released a new single and a new name.
On Sept. 4, the "For You I Will (Confidence)" artist dropped a song called "Body and Soul" under the artist name: teddy<3. The slick, pop-rock track is one of the songs that will appear on Geiger's upcoming album, LillyAnna, according to MTV news.
Geiger told MTV that she started working on LillyAnna in 2011 and 2012, but production stopped as she started transitioning.
"There are a lot of songs about struggling with identity and not knowing how to really let out and express yourself," Geiger said in a Beats 1 Radio interview. "Even what I did with some of them, I went back and I did tweak some lyrics here and there, and a lot of them weren't finished-finished ... The clarity of being able to complete things was huge."
Geiger has written songs for artists including One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer and most notably, she worked with Shawn Mendes on all of his Billboard charting singles.
Mendes described Geiger as "mesmerizing" in an interview with The New York Times. "[She just has a star quality to her," Mendes said. "She was the person I was trying to sing like."
This is the second single Geiger has released this year. In July, she dropped "I Was in a Cult," which is now included under the teddy<3 moniker.
