Where the Girls Are….Aqua Girl Comes to South Florida

Thousands of women will converge on Miami Beach this weekend for one of the most popular weekends on the women’s circuit, Aqua Girl. Founded in 1999, the weeklong festivities benefit the Aqua Girl Foundation, which promotes equality, strength, health and visibility of LGBT women through grants to local organizations.

Miami Beach will begin to heat up on Wednesday, May 12 with the Lady Luck Bowl-a-thon at Lucky Strike, 1691 Michigan Ave. Admission is $9.95, but for $15 you get two games and shoe rental.

Thursday night’s party is Traffic Jam at Dream, 1691 Washington Ave. All the hot ladies will be wearing colored glow necklaces and you know the drill: red means she’s taken, yellow means approach with caution, and a green is full speed ahead. Look for hot go-go girls and outrageous drag kings, too. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Enjoy fun in the sun Friday afternoon, May 15, at the Splash pool party at the Surfcomber Hotel, 1717 Collins Ave. and don’t forget your sunscreen. DJs Just Steph and Zenho will be providing the music. Admission is $9.95 in advance and $15 at the door.

Comedian Elvira Kurt performs for the ladies at the Colony Theater on Lincoln Rd. later on Friday evening with an 8 p.m. show. A veteran of the famed Second City comedy troupe and star of Comedy Network’s “Popcultured,” Kurt will have the girls in stitches. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

After laughing the evening away, the girls will get their Latin groove on at Nikki Beach, 1 Ocean Dr., for Havana Nights. DJs Tatiana and Citizen Jane will provide sizzling sounds at this upscale party. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

On Saturday, more than 2000 women will head back to the Surfcomber pool for the the Aqua Beach pool party. The Miami Heat Dancers will add some sizzle to the party, which costs $19.95 in advance and $25 at the door.

The party moves downtown Saturday with Paradise at Mekka, 950 NE 2nd Ave. Wynter Garden will be performing live at the signature dance event of the weekend. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Strict dress code will be enforced.

The weekend wraps up Sunday with two very popular events: Aqualicious tea dance at Klutch, 136 Collins Ave., from 2 to 7 p.m. and Afterglow at Score on Lincoln Rd. The boys are invited to Aqualicious and go-go girls and boys have been lined up to provide some sexy eye candy. Tickets for Aqualicious are $19.95 in advance and $25 at the door and tickets for Afterglow are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
