The world was shocked when pop icon George Michael passed away suddenly on Christmas Day last year. However, fans across the world have honored the late singer in a remarkable manner 10 months after his passing.
Michael’s album “Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1” has reigned as the number one album in the U.K. for 62 weeks according to Official Charts.
The 1990 album was re-released following the airing of the Showtime documentary “George Michael: Freedom” on Oct. 21. Narrated by the late star, the feature follows the making of this album and serves as his final body of work.
Michael’s former manager and close friend David Austin was thrilled to discover the success of the album and believes it shows just how special Michael’s artistry was.
“It’s no great secret that George was a perfectionist and it shows – he was over everything from its inception to its finish, and it’s a blessing and rare gift to be guided by such genius,” said Austin. “That, along with exceptional teamwork and the overwhelming love for George from the public has made everything come together. We are all so incredibly proud to have the Number 1 album in the UK.”
Many fans believe this is not the only success we will be seeing from the late star. With the holiday season right around the corner, some are predicting that his festive classic “Last Christmas” will reach number one on the anniversary of his death. The song climbed to the top 10, the week following his passing.
