Thou Art Woman is an event celebrating LBT women and their allies through performance and visual art. The art is from a variety of disciplines and transcends age, race, ethnicity, and income. It’s creativity by women for an audience of women and their allies.
The event started as an open mic event six years ago. It’s now an annual three-day event including an art exhibit at ArtServe, and an unforgettable evening of live performances at the Broward Center for Performing Arts (BCPA.)
This year’s event will take place March 13-15. It kicks off with a reception at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. On Saturday, March 14 the event will move to the Amaturo Theater at Broward Center.
Thou Art Woman celebrates bi, lesbian, trans, queer, and intersex artists from a variety of disciplines. It’s a great way to experience art, poetry, music, and more. The performances are the perfect settings for a date night or girls evening out.
If you don’t live in South Florida, it’s also a great excuse to visit. There are resources at ThouArtWoman.com for people traveling from out of town.
The highlight of the weekend is the Open Mic and Performance Night at the BCPA. Nik Harris and G Wright Muir host the event.
“It’s a unique night for us to have the stage and audience filled with LGBTQI women and allies,” Muir said. “We can be at ease and be ourselves. The night is ours. Much of the content in the performances will connect to us as lesbians — from humor to challenging experiences.”
Organizers encourage attendees to come an hour before in order to mingle and enjoy each other’s company before the show begins.

This year, early bird ticket sales make it easier to buy tickets at a lower price.
“People who buy tickets now pay only $20,” Muir said. “At the door they’ll cost $30. We felt like this would be a better deal for people this year.”
