SFGN brought home four awards Saturday at the annual Sunshine State Awards ceremony that took place at the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale.

SFGN’s former art director Brendon Lies took home first place for Front Page Design.

“Brendon’s cover designs were equally stinging and stunning last year,” Executive Editor Jason Parsley said. “I am very proud of his work. Everyone at SFGN was sad to see him leave us this year. But this award just illustrates a bright career ahead of him.”

The annual awards contest is the largest in the state and is a part of the Florida chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The ceremony was held in partnership with the local chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

Kim Swan, SFGN’s webmaster, won second place in the Newsletter category for her work on the Islander, SFGN’s Wilton Manors newsletter. John McDonald won second place for Local Reporting for his coverage of Wilton Manors and his work with The Gazette, SFGN’s supplemental publication covering Wilton Manors and Oakland Park. And finally, Christiana Lilly, Steve Rothaus and Jason Parsley shared the prize for third place in the Crime and Courts category.

“Congrats to all of our winners,” Parsley said.
