Last week Florida Press Club announced the winners of its 62nd Excellence in Journalism Competition and SFGN took home 3 awards.

Executive Editor Jason Parsley won second place in the Community News category; first place in Health Writing; and first place in Minority Reporting.

Some of the stories Parsley submitted in the competition include an in-depth piece on the crystal meth comeback in the gay community; two pieces detailing the controversy surrounding PrEP to prevent HIV; and an in-depth piece taking a close look at Equality Florida’s endorsement process.

“SFGN continues to win awards and I am proud of the work we do,” said SFGN Publisher Norm Kent. “Just a few months ago the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association awarded Jason runner up for LGBT Journalist of the Year. I look forward to us continuing to produce excellent journalism in the future.”
