A registered child sex offender from Illinois is accused of raping a fellow homeless male in Deerfield Beach, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Donald Vannatter, 45, was arrested Sunday after the alleged victim showed up at Broward Health North medical center for treatment saying he was raped, according to the arrest report.

The alleged victim told Broward Sheriff's detectives he was attacked between 1:30 and 2:30 a.m. Saturday in a wooded area on Sample Road near Interstate 95, the report stated.

The male said he and Vannatter were drinking alcohol at a homeless encampment when Vannatter lured him to a secluded area and attacked him, detectives said.

He said he complied because Vannatter threatened to kill him, investigators said.

Vannatter claimed the sex was consensual, the report said.

The victim's age wasn't made available.

Vannatter is facing a charge of sexual assault on a person over 12 years of age and his bond was set at $500,000 on Monday, jail records showed.

Illinois records list him as a violent sexual predator who was convicted of sexual battery and assault on a 16-year-old girl in Kane County in 2010.
