Earl Bunning, who performs across South Florida under the stage name RaeJean Cox, was in a major car accident Aug. 5.
Bunning was driving on I-95 in Palm Beach County when the accident happened, throwing him from the car. As of this writing, friends say he’s in critical but stable condition at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
Bunning is a member of the Imperial Sun Court of All Florida (ISCOAF), serving as Empress of the philanthropic organization. He underwent multiple surgeries, and according to ISCOAF posts on Facebook, he is able to acknowledge people around him and gave a thumbs up to doctors. He was on a ventilator to help him breathe but has been weaned off.
Friends began to worry when he didn’t show up for work on Aug. 6 and his cell phone went unanswered. Details of what caused the accident haven’t been released.
RaeJean is a popular performer in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. In addition to raising thousands of dollars for charities through ISCOAF, RaeJean performs fun, raucous shows at establishments including Scandals Saloon, The Pub, and more.
Bunning’s sister, Dacia Rance, is overseeing his care, and posted a Facebook message to his family, friends, and fans saying, “I would like to thank everyone again for all your prayers for my brother. I truly believe they are working. I told him that everyone is praying for him and sending their love to him. He was able to give me two thumbs up.”
Due to his critical condition and the COVID crisis, he cannot receive cards, gifts or visitors.
