Pride Takes Over The Drive

Before sunglasses and speedos are dorned for the Fort Lauderdale Pride Parade and festival, folks had a chance to dress up and go out to a special Friday night on the drive.

Wilton Manors’ Pride on the Drive was full of drinking and dancing, but had some featured events on offer as well. Rumors warmed up the stage with a drag show featuring an “I Love Lucy” tribute with a full Lucy in drag reenacting the vitameatavegamin commercial scene.

After the drag show came the sixth annual Big Belly contest from CCBOY (Chubs, Chasers, Bears, Older Younger). Bellies (and some butts) were on display for the crowd as each participant danced across the stage.

The Pub also featured Billboard Top 10 recording artist Sir Ari Gold’s Soundtrack to Freedom Concert. Gold is a seasoned LGBTQ scholar with a fashion sense to boot — the muscled performer ended his set shirtless in matching golden hat and pants.

The party then moved to The Manor for the Bubble Gum party with flashy performances by drag queens TP Lords, Calypso, Erika and Sasha.

The celebrations continue through the weekend with Carnival themed drag shows, parties and of course the Pride Parade at 5:30 Saturday afternoon.
