Pens, pencils, notebooks and a backpack to carry them, the basics many people took for granted growing up are luxuries to tens of thousands of South Florida students.

Before they head back to class on Aug. 18, The Pride Center at Equality Park is helping kids get geared up. They’re joining forces with Broward Education Foundation (BEF) to make sure everyone starts the new year with basic school supplies.

“Giving back to the local community is part of our mission, and we are proud to support BEF’s year-long efforts to provide so many deserving students with the tools they need to learn and thrive,” said Robert Boo, CEO of The Pride Center at Equality Park. “Basic school supplies like backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, erasers, glue sticks are a luxury for a large segment of children in our community. We want to level the learning field with our school supply drive and encourage everyone to join us.”

A $10 donation to BEF will supply a student with all the basic needs to meet the first day of school head-on. Or you can directly donate supplies on the list below by calling Hector Javier, the store manager of BEF’s School Supply, at 754-321-9020.

“Basic school supplies are always in demand, but even more so now,” said Shea Ciriago, BEF’S CEO. “It’s vital we do everything in our power to provide students with the tools they need to stay engaged and focused. We are so appreciative of The Pride Center at Equality Park and all the individuals and local businesses who step up each and every year to support our resilient students who are so eager to learn.
