It hurts, but Elijah Manley said he is not giving up.

Manley lost his bid to unseat incumbent Florida Representative Bobby DuBose in District 94. DuBose won the universal Democratic primary, collecting 20,474 votes for 69%.

Manley, 21, a queer Black man, released the following statement on Instagram:

“This loss hurts. It really does. It will for a while. However, our work is far from over. We must work with Rep. DuBose in this next legislative session to combat the challenges we face as a state. I wish him nothing but success. He was cordial as he has always been to me. To the young people, our democracy is only as strong as we make it. The right to vote is our most sacred responsibility. Use it,” Manley wrote.

Manley earned 8,825 votes for a 30% showing.
