The war between Russia and Ukraine is still ongoing, and that’s why two organizations are working to create better protections for LGBT people who are stuck in the middle.

Our Fund Foundation is hosting a reception with Kyle Knight, a senior LGBT rights researcher at Human Rights Watch, according to a press release. Knight and his team document abuse and advocate for the protection of the LGBT community.

“From Florida to Russia and around the world, we are witnessing a wave of hostile policies that threaten the lives and basic freedoms of LGBT people,” said David Jobin, Our Fund’s president.

Knight will be in South Florida following a three-week mission to the Ukraine-Poland border where he will be gathering evidence of discrimination against LGBT refugees and speaking with organizations trying to keep them safe.

The reception will take place on two different dates:

Broward: June 6 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Our Fund Foundation, 1201 NE 26 ST, SUITE 108, Wilton Manors, FL 33305.

Miami-Dade: June 7 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, 1130 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33139.
