The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the LGBT arts scene in South Florida. The shutdown impacted theaters, art walks, musical performances, and an entire community of people working in the arts and beyond.
Our Fund Foundation plans to give away $100,000 in grants and up to $20,000 per applicant through its 2021 LGBTQ Arts & Culture Fund. The 2021 grants will support programs and services that incorporate safety lessons learned over the past year during the pandemic — especially those that provide solutions to community concerns around in-person gatherings.
“Our Fund believes that success for arts and culture agencies in the post-pandemic environment will be defined by their ability to pivot and cater to audience’s anticipated expectations around safety and social distancing that will be foreseen remnants of the pandemic for several years,” said Our Fund President & CEO David Jobin in a press release. “Priority in grant consideration will be given to agencies whose goal is not just to return to normal, but return to a new normal that builds on new capabilities developed in the initial months of the pandemic.”
The 2021 Arts & Culture Fund will award grants to organizations that will use the funds on COVID-related safety protocols — including an increased number of performances, reduced audience sizes, marketing, and more.
To be eligible for the 2021 LGBTQ Arts & Culture Fund, applicants must be either an LGBTQ-primary non-profit or a non-LGBTQ-primary non-profit organization that is seeking funding for an LGBTQ-specific program/project in Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach Counties.
Grants from the LGBTQ Arts & Culture Fund are made possible through contributions from The Jim Laird Hamish Fund at Our Fund, Our Fund Donor Advised Fundholders and individual donors, Our Fund’s Endowment Fund, and the support of philanthropic partners.
Projects and organizations that work on behalf of underserved populations will receive special consideration. The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday, February 19, 2021.
