One of the coolest and most fun museums anywhere, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is once again flying its colors and celebrating Pride.
MODS’ Fourth Annual Family Pride Celebration is set for Saturday, June 25.
“MODS has been an integral part of family life in South Florida since we opened our doors in 1992, all families,” MODS president and CEO Joseph P. Cox said. “At the Museum we recognize the strength of a diverse community, and therefore, we help create a community where everyone belongs. Diversity, equity, access and inclusion are in our DNA.”
Everyone who comes can participate in the rainbow science lab, make and take a Pride flag, and make a tie-dyed t-shirt. Plain white shirts will be for sale on-site for $5. A special Pride KaBOOM! The show will brighten things up, as will story time with drag queen Misty "Eyez" Alicea.
Cox is ebullient about the event.
“The Pride vibe is celebratory family fun and inspiring science! Everyone is invited to this colorful day at the Museum and encouraged to wear their Pride colors! Come check it out!”
There’s also a chance to “interact” with dinosaurs.
“To add to the excitement of our new traveling exhibit Dinosaurs in Motion, presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, we are going to have a Dino Egg Hunt with prizes. Representatives from Broward Health will be in our Powerful You! exhibit along with other local partners and friends of the LGBTQ+ community. Our diversity and inclusion initiatives are deeply infused into the values of the Museum. We celebrate the LGBTQ+ community on Pride Day and at MODS year-round!”
MODS is at 401 SW 2nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is free for Fort Lauderdale residents with valid IDs. Non-residents and non-members of the museum pay $5. For more information, visit MODS.org.
