They met by the pool at a resort, where the 5-foot-7 blonde in the bikini told him they could go on a date.

Later that night, he went to meet her at her apartment, Unit 305, in a gated West Palm Beach community. But when he approached her door, the attackers took him by surprise.

The woman that the suitor expected turned out to be robbers intent on stealing from and threatening him. One robber shoved him into the apartment, where the man feared he would be killed, police said.

West Palm Beach police have arrested one suspect in the Sunday night robbery, but still are searching for the blonde and another accomplice.

The events began about 4 p.m. Sunday at a resort in Palm Beach Shores.

The victim, a 39-year-old man from West Virginia, stepped out of a pool and into a hot tub, where he met the woman. The two hit it off and agreed to go on a date. He gave her his phone number.

Hours later, the woman phoned him to confirm their date. She later texted him an address: Unit 305 of Grand Isle apartments in the 4100 block of North Haverhill Road.

When the man showed up to his date's apartment complex, he phoned her through the call box at the gate. "A female's voice answered and instructed [him] to pull through the gate," a police report said. He "recognized the voice as that of the white female he met at the resort hot tub."

The man parked and went to the second floor. And when the door to Unit 305 opened, someone pushed him into the apartment.

It's unclear whether the woman from the hot tub was in the apartment. However, there were two other people, including a man who was dressed as a woman.

One robber demanded that the victim empty his pockets, and they threatened to kill him. When the man handed over about $120 and his iPhone, the robbers kicked him out of the apartment, police said.

The man ran to his vehicle, drove away and called 911. He then showed officers where the robbery happened, and also identified one of the robbers, Gregory Russell, 23, of West Palm Beach, from a photo lineup, police said.

Police knew that Russell lived in Unit 305 because they had responded to a disturbance call there a few weeks earlier.

About 3 a.m. Monday, officers knocked on Russell's door and when he stepped outside, police arrested him. Russell faces robbery and kidnapping charges. He was held in Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $21,000 bail.

West Palm Beach police still are trying to identify the woman who set up the date, as well as a second man suspected of participating in the robbery, agency spokeswoman Lori Colombino said. "The incident remains an open investigation pending the identification of the female and additional male suspect," Colombino said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the case to call Detective C. Branch at 561-822-1659 or Crime Stoppers at 800-458-8477.
