Crack that whip. On Mickey Mouse, that is. For those who remember rock band Devo’s 1980s hit “Whip It,” or don’t – no worries, Kirk Rubén’s got you.
Rubén, (aka Mr. Ramrod 2013 Fort Lauderdale) has a plan to offer you an extended Halloween weekend of sorts with leather and more.
The 5th annual “Leather Incursion” takes place Nov. 1 through Nov. 3 at Walt Disney World in Orlando. Last year there were 40 attendees and this year Rubén hopes to have 50.
Rubén, who is sought after for his kink and fetish workshops, is the man at the helm to direct attendees over the three-day event.
“Join your fellow leather kink and fetish friends from all over the country to come together and make memories at the most magical place on earth,” Rubén said in a recent email blast.
He said the age of those who come usually range from the 20s into the 60s.
“We had all kinds of different people that joined us [in 2018] – gay, straight, trans, men, women – even a service dog,” Rubén said.
He said people have come from as far as Missouri, California and New York.
“Put on your family friendly leather or gear, and show your pride as we head into the parks and celebrate who we are outside of the bars, dungeons and title contests,” his email posted continued.
Rubén describes the gathering as a “leather version of Gay Days at Disney.” Gay Days is traditionally held every June (this year it was in August) and is known as one of the biggest Pride-style events for the LGBT community.
At Leather Incursion, you’ll have a chance to visit Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.
Participants can come for a single day or all three. While Rubén is the party director here, he’s quick to note that the weekend is pressure free.
There will be specific, but optional, meeting times for photos, meals and to visit attractions. Nothing is mandatory.
Leather Incursion coincides with Epcot’s popular Food & Wine Festival – many a foodie’s dream.
New options this year are visits to the recently opened Toy Story Land and a trek to the highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, both at Hollywood Studios.
There is also a closing dinner at a Disney Springs restaurant on the last night.
Rubén has secured a group hotel rate of $109 to $129 per night at the Courtyard Orlando Lake Buena Vista at Vista Centre.
Since the weekend butts up against Halloween this year (which is on a Thursday), and some are planning to attend Wicked Manors or other events, Rubén said the group hotel rate will be effective starting Oct. 31 through Nov. 5.
Extending the group rate is an easier way to accommodate those with separate Halloween plans or those who want to celebrate Halloween at Disney World before Leather Incursion, he said.
A final note: Rubén wants to make clear that Leather Incursion is not an official Disney event and isn’t sponsored or endorsed by the company or any Disney affiliation.
