According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the South in the United States has an estimated 51% of new HIV cases annually. This region is also behind in providing quality HIV prevention services and care on top of seeing a greater proportion of new HIV diagnoses.

The CDC also states that nine of the 10 metropolitan statistical areas of residence – including Miami – with the highest rates of diagnosis of HIV infection are in the South. In fact, in 2020, Miami had the highest rate of HIV diagnoses in the South, with 1,455 diagnoses during the year.
