(SS) Movie theaters, bowling alleys, arcades and fitness centers all will be shut down in Broward and Palm Beach counties through March 31, another aggressive step to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

So will concert houses, auditoriums, playhouses, gymnasiums and beaches.

The order, released by the governor’s office Friday, takes effect immediately. It follows a shutdown in Miami-Dade that took effect at 9 p.m. Thursday of “non-essential businesses.” Exemptions include places such as grocery stores, gas stations, laundromats and banks.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said he ordered the closures to combat the virus in what he called the “epicenter” of the state’s outbreak.
