This weekend is historically a time when large amounts of gay people flock to Walt Disney World in Orlando.

One Magical Weekend (June 1-3) is one gay event happening this weekend on Disney property. B Resort & Spa is this year’s OMW host hotel. In an email, OMW promoters list pool parties and convenience of location to Disney theme parks as assets to their event.

“No long walks through the parking lot at Epcot!” reads the email.

OMW promoters also claim their event is at the only hotel on Disney property offering bus service to all Disney theme parks.

“Don’t waste your valuable time in traffic,” reads the email. “Don’t worry about a rental car. Don’t worry about a designated driver! Stay where you play!”

Enhancing what are dubbed “therapy” pool parties, a world class roster of DJs are set to mix music. B Resort & Spa is described as a boutique hotel with 394 guest rooms. Its master penthouse suite on the 17th floor was available as of Thursday for just under $500 a night.

“To stay at our official host hotel and attend all eight events, it is approximately $1,000 per person,” Tom Crist, OMW spokesman said in an emailed response to questions sent from SFGN.

The cost balloons to $2,200 for a family of four. Room costs, Crist said, are $600 for four people and event costs $400.

“It is much less if guests book when we launch in October,” Crist said.

The history of this weekend being dominated by gays at Disney parks dates back to 1991, organizers for OMW state on their website.

“What began in 1991 as a small group of friends who spoke in an online chat room and decided to meet face to face, wearing red shirts at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando on the first Saturday in June has now grown to become one of the largest LGBT events in the world,” the OMW website declares.

Crist goes a step further.

“To continue the 28-year tradition of LGBTQ-plus coming to Walt Disney World Resorts and showing their RED SHIRT PRIDE!,” Crist said, in an email.

A Gay Biz Expo is also part of OMW activities. OMW is sponsored by Bud Light, Hot Spots Media, Grindr and SFGN.

“We have people from 44 states and 19 countries coming this year,” Crist said. “Everyone is welcome and our goal is to make sure everyone’s vacation is Magical.”
