Compass’ eighth annual Chili Cook Off takes place Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Penny's at the Duke, 902 N Dixie Hwy. in Lantana.

There’s a $5 minimum donation and it costs $1 to cast a vote for your favorite chili. All proceeds will benefit the Compass Youth Program.

Several local bars and organizations are participating, including Roosters, The Mad Hatter, Rusty Gordon LGBTA Democratic Caucus, SMART Ride Team Everyday People, and others.

“The competition will be fierce,” said Claudia Harrison, Chief Information Officer of Compass Community Center.

Amanda Canete, Compass' youth program director, added, "Every year this is a fun event, and truly a community-wide fundraiser for Compass' youth program. All the funds raised support the Equality Prom and Lavender Graduation, which are fun and meaningful events for our kids. And the chili is always delicious.”

Last year the event raised about $4,000.

There will be drag queen performances by the ladies of The Imperial Sun Court of All Florida, who also happen to have a chili entry.

Last year’s winners included The Mad Hatter Lounge in first place, H.G. Roosters in second; and The Rusty Gordon Palm Beach LGBTA Democratic Caucus in third.
