Bona Italian Restaurant comes out ahead of neighbor Dolce Salato in this year's Best Of contest. Bona takes home two prizes this year in Broward with Best Pizza and Best Italian.

Bona specializes in a New York-style pie with large, bendable slices and plenty of cheese.

“We were overwhelmed by the support of the community, especially this year, to be nominated in so many categories. It was very motivating for our entire team,”co-owner Glen Weinzimer said. “We can’t thank the community enough for their ongoing support during this pandemic, it hasn’t been easy, but seeing an amazing support has been so reassuring that there is hope out there for a better tomorrow.”

Weinzimer said he caught by surprise with their win in a new category this year: Best Italian.

“Our neighboring restaurants all do an amazing job in their food and quality,” he said. “We love that what we do stands out amongst the pack.”

He said their most popular dish is Chicken Cyriac (blackened chicken over a garlic cream sauce, penne pasta and freshly toasted almonds on top).

As for his personal favorite that changes day to day but said “I can’t resist our Penne ala vodka with broccoli and grilled chicken.”

Runners-Up: Dolce Salato for Best Pizza which offers a Neapolitan style pie with a thinner, crispier crust. You can’t go wrong with either, it’s merely a matter of personal preference. Meanwhile Café Vico takes home runner up for Best Italian.
