Organizers of Florida AIDS Walk announced Thursday that their upcoming walk and music festival on Fort Lauderdale beach is cancelled due to concerns over the coronavirus.

adSFGNCaronaHomepageinstoryAddThe event was scheduled for March 21. “Due to the current state of emergency placed on Broward County, Florida and the rising coronavirus (COVID-19) numbers, we want to ensure that we are keeping your safety as our top priority,” a statement from the organization reads. According to the statement the event will be rescheduled.

The event had already exceeded its fundraising goal of $1.5 million.  

This announcement follows many other LGBT events being cancelled including the first ever Pride of the Americas, Miami Beach Pride, and Palm Beach Pride and several Equality Florida events throughout South Florida.
