Local gay attorney and former mayor of Broward County Ken Keechl, 48, announced his candidacy last night for Broward County Commission District 7 Seat. Keechl served four years on the Broward County Commission, which included one year as mayor, but lost his reelection bid to Chip LaMarca in 2010.

Due to term limits Commissioner John E. Rodstrom, Jr. cannot run for reelection, however, there is a challenge to the term limits before the State Supreme Court that may overrule the restrictions.

Keechl is a Florida native and has lived in Broward County for 25 years. He graduated from Florida State University. He’s a partner at the Broward County law firm of Kopelowitz, Ostrow, Ferguson, Weiselberg, Keechl, PA. Additionally, he worked for the City of Plantation for 14 years as assistant city attorney.

Keechl notes in the press release he has never voted in favor of a tax increase.

“As a commissioner, I will continue to support incentives that create, attract and grow companies that will help put people back to work in District 7 and throughout Broward County,” he said.
