Compass and Pride Center Host Alternative Family Building Seminars

Currently, there are an estimated six to 12 million children in the U.S. who have a lesbian or gay parent. An increasing number of same-sex couples are looking to expand their families and turning to surrogacy and egg donation as a way of becoming biological parents.

This week, The Pride Center at Equality Park and Compass have teamed with Mindy Berkson, an international infertility / surrogacy expert and founder of Lotus Blossom Consulting, to help gay and lesbian couples and individuals plan for parenthood. Together, they will be leading a complimentary session titled, “Options for Biological Family Building in the LGBTQ Community—Surrogacy, Egg Donation and Treatment.”

The seminars will take place on Wednesday, May 12 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at Compass in West Palm Beach and Thursday, May 13 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the GLCC/Pride Center in Wilton Manors.

Topics will include egg donation and surrogacy opportunities in the U.S., choosing the right physician, how to identify egg donors, sperm donors and surrogates, understanding the legal environment and how to think through timing, coordination, facilitation and cost of your treatments. The discussion will conclude with a Q&A session with Mindy.

Mindy Berkson is the founder of Lotus Blossom Consulting, one of the first infertility consultancies in the United States. With more than a decade of experience at physician’s offices, egg donation, and surrogacy agencies, Berkson assists individuals in working through the often-challenging roadblocks of infertility. She provides the best information and resources available to them from around the world.
