Get ready for some “queerful geeky fun.”
Out Con 2017, South Florida’s largest LGBT geek convention, is coming to the Miami Airport Convention Center on Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 7.
“I think the most important thing about OUT Con is the effect is has on people,” said J Stryker, creator of Out Con and Okama Con. SFGN profiled Stryker in April. “It promotes an all inclusive environment and people really feel comfortable being themselves. We pride ourselves in celebrating people's differences and being the largest convention that celebrates LGBT+ queer culture in Florida.”
Head over to the maid cafe for some early morning snacks and performances, or if you have a competitive itch you can check out the gayming room, featuring tournaments for “Smash Bros,” “Street Fighter V” and more.
Be sure to take a peek — or participate in — the costume contest, where cosplayers join together to show off their work and potentially win prizes. The contest starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, registration all day.
"Outcon is one of the friendliest conventions down here in Florida," said cosplay guest Jean WanWan. "The mood is always so bright and everyone looks like they are really enjoying themselves. Honestly, is just a pleasure to be around so many positive and open minded people. I wouldn't mind coming every year because is simply an explosion of love and joy."
Down for drag? Out Con’s Drag Show Extravaganza begins at 7 p.m. with some of South Florida’s local entertainers. And be sure to get down and dirty for the Strip & Variety Show after dark.
Tickets are $15 for Saturday and $12 for Sunday, or purchase the weekend pass for $25. For more info, check out OutConvention.com.
