24 Year old lesbian strangled to death in Polk County by her girlfriend’s father
In Polk County, two weeks ago, Jerry Lee Seger, an enraged father who allegedly blamed 24-year-old Courtney Bright for leading his daughter down what he felt was the wrong path—including a three-year lesbian affair—strangled Bright to death and left her body in an abandoned house, say police. He was reportedly intoxicated and on drugs at the time of the slaying.
The Gay American Heroes foundation believes it is a hate motivated crime and has asked for support from the gay community in recognizing her passing.
The organization was founded by Scott Hall in 2007. Hall was motivated to start the organization after resident of Polk County Florida, Ryan Skipper was murdered for being openly gay; Skipper was 25 years old.
Invited speakers include Stuart Milk, Jack Seiler Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Gary Resnick Mayor of Wilton Manors, Sheriff Al Lamberti, Ken Keechl Mayor of Broward County, Paul Hyman of the GLCC, Justin Flippen City Commisisoner, Carol Benowitz President of PFLAG, Noah Kitty from Etz Chaim and Reverend Durrell Watkins.
Stated Hall: “We will honor Courtney’s memory- a young woman who had her life stolen from her because she was gay.”
