Between the pandemic, a slow summer season, and a lot of rain, some local businesses are struggling to regain their financial footing.

This weekend, The Haus Lounge along with Sugar Plum and the Grumbling Growler are teaming up to celebrate Labor Day Weekend and solidify their place in the Lake Worth community.

The event is set for Sunday from 3-9 p.m. at the Haus Lounge, 18 S J Street in Lake Worth. The Haus Lounge is queer-owned and offers a safe space for the LGBT community. The event is free and will have BBQ and games out on the lawn. Local craftsmen and women will also be there. Haus Lounge owner Adam Sessa says vendors will be selling gifts, retail items, tarot card readings and more. Several local drag queens are set to perform and the event will be hosted by legendary queen Big Mama.

“Come out and have a good time and further our ability to cater to more people and more things in the community,” Sessa said.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, and the proceeds will go towards Haus Lounge and Sugar Plum expansion plans. Haus Lounge wants to get a full liquor license (they currently serve beer and wine), while Sugar Plum wants to get their food license. Hit hard by shutdowns, serving food would let Sugar Plum remain open if businesses are forced to close again.

Sugar Plum is a little bit of everything. They are a craft beer and wine bar, have an art gallery, bookshop, and hourly gaming sessions. They’re at 1120 Lucerne Ave. in Lake Worth.
