Between Instagram, Tik-Toks, and regular old TV, different body types are celebrated now more than ever. But outward appearances are still over-emphasized, and not nearly enough care is given to the rest of ourselves. The old cliche is true: it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
March is Women’s History Month, and the Aqua Foundation for Women is marking the occasion with an empowering event: Health and Wellness from a Body Positive Perspective.
“Many women are dissatisfied with their appearance and disconnected from their body,” a press release from Aqua states. “Eating disorders are rampant in the United States and in many western cultures. Oftentimes when going to a health or fitness coach you are exposed to constant weighing, measuring, body fat pinches, and weight loss talk.”
They believe that approach only goes so far. “Let’s stop creating unrealistic and unattainable goals for ourselves and redefine what healthy is.”
Their virtual event March 25 at 3 p.m. will focus on health and wellness from a body-positive perspective. A pair of dynamic speakers are scheduled to educate and inspire. Carrie Guzanick considers herself a truth seeker. She has spent more than 17 years learning yoga, sound healing, diet, cleansing and talk therapy. Now she teaches these techniques to others while pursuing a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy.
Guzanick will be joined by Vivi Villagra, a person of many skills and expertise. Villagra is a Reiki Master, Shaman, Sound Intuitive, Plant Alchemist, Kambo Practitioner, Yoga Teacher, and Humble Healer. Her passion is to help people heal and rise up. As co-owner of Agni Miami she knows everybody is different and needs to be celebrated, and for people to feel empowered and good about themselves.
Aqua Foundation was created to serve the LBT communities in South Florida. They offer mentoring, scholarship programs, community outreach and emergency assistance to those in need. They developed the Aqua Cares initiative as a virtual space for collaboration, communication, and information.
