$3000 Reward Offered in Suspected Wilton Manors Car Arson

Wilton Manors police are looking for a man who may have set one of the department’s cars ablaze.

Detectives say a man threw an object “containing an unknown accelerant” onto a vehicle parked in the police department’s south lot at 2020 Wilton Drive around 4 a.m. July 26. No injuries were reported in the incident and police are still investigating a motive.

“We don’t know what the intentions were of the individual or individuals who are responsible and were responsible for the incident,” Jennifer Bickhardt, Wilton Manors Police spokeswoman said. “Was it a target toward Wilton Manors Police Department? Toward our community in the city of Wilton Manors? Or the law enforcement community?”

Bickhardt added that the Wilton Manors community is “very supportive of our police department.”

Surveillance video released by officers Aug. 6 shows a man entering a nearby convenience store who is now wanted by police for questioning about the suspected arson. Bickhardt added that the person seen in the video is not a suspect.

“We take it very seriously because we don’t know what the intentions are and who they’re trying to target — if it was a hate crime of some type of nature, we take it seriously,” Bickhardt said. “It is an unusual occurrence and we’re thankful for that.”

"It could have been a lot worse, so we are very grateful that this is the only damage done.”

A $3,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. Tipsters are asked to call Bonnie Owens at 954-390-2192, email This email address is being protected from spambots.
