November Events Commemorate Transgender Awareness Month

SFGN File Photo

Throughout this month, there are several events for Transgender Awareness Month. The activities will honor transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse individuals. The highlight of the month is the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on Nov. 20.

The day memorializes the lives of those lost to anti-transgender violence. The week before TDOR, there are events and activities for Transgender Awareness Week, helping to raise visibility about transgender people and the issues the community faces. Transgender women, especially women of color, deal with disproportionate acts of violence, with nearly two dozen trans people killed so far this year.
