President Donald Trump will soon let doctors deny service to transgender patients service as part of religious exemption.
The new rule would also allow medical professionals to avoid performing abortions when they have moral or spiritual objections to them, according to Politico. The office of Health and Human Services would be able to shield doctors who feel this way in the new policy.
“Once again, women and the LGBTQ community are under attack from the Trump-Pence administration,” Elizabeth Renda and Lucas Acosta of the Democratic National Committee said in a statement to PinkNews. “Days before the anniversary of the Women’s March, Republicans are giving health workers a license to discriminate against women and members of the LGBTQ community.”
While president, Barack Obama rolled back those religious protections created by George W. Bush that protected those doctors that cited religious or moral reasons for denying treatment.
