Organizers of Diversity Honors announced Friday their upcoming gala on April 25 is cancelled due to concerns over the coronavirus.

“We recognize that the uncertainty of this global health crisis, and protecting the health of our supporters, community partners, our LGBT community members, and the broader world is our first priority,” reads a prepared statement.

adSFGNCaronaHomepageinstoryAdd“Therefore, we have made the decision to postpone our joint gala on April 25 in alignment with CDC guidance, as well as recommendations from State, and other government officials and public health experts. Our aim is to protect our staff and our broader community and also do our part to assist in the containment of the COVID-19 virus.”

They hope to reschedule the event sometime in the fall. Diversity Honors is an annual collaboration between the Harvey Milk Foundation, The Pride Center at Equality Park and the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Foundation. This year’s sixth annual event would have taken place during the first ever Pride of the Americas, but it too was cancelled.

The gala takes place each year at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. This announcement follows many other LGBT events being cancelled including Miami Beach Pride, Palm Beach Pride and several Equality Florida events throughout South Florida. Some of the events may be rescheduled.
