Today is a sad day for Freedom. It is a sad day for the Cuban Americans of the United States of America and the Cuban people still on the Island. Today, a slap in the face is given to all Cubans and Cuban Americans. The raising of our very own flag – a symbol of Freedom to all the world will be raised in a Country that not only oppresses its people, but hates Freedom. As we are witness to this today, let’s remember that Cuba is still under communist rule, bringing nothing but oppression and pain to the Cuban people. Nothing has changed and nothing will change unless the Cuban Government starts to realize that Freedom is essential and that the Cuban people deserve to be treated as equal human beings and have open and fair elections.

The civil rights of the people of Cuba have been and will continue to be violated. As far as the LGBT Community in Cuba, they will show you what you want to see. No matter what is said by Mariela Castro, the LGBT community, as well as the straight community, have NO EQUAL RIGHTS under their laws. Shall we pretend that because Castro’s daughter is at the forefront of the so-called LGBT movement that it is truth? Is anything truth with the Castro Regime? NO. They are oppressors; they have raped and pillaged a beautiful Island in the name of Communism. They have murdered and stolen from good honest hard working people and they continue to jail those strong enough to speak out and say ENOUGH. Just last week 50 marchers were arrested along with 40 other activists simply for protesting in peace. Nothing has changed and nothing will change.

In the mad rush to leave some kind of legacy, this President and its administration has bowed once again to a regime that only looks to oppress its people and bring harm to the United States of America. LCR Miami stands united as we strongly denounce this raising of OUR American flag in a Communist nation that treats its people like property, puppets and criminals.

Today is indeed a sad day that will go down in history as the day the United States surrendered to Cuba.

Log Cabin Republicans of Miami: We are an organization comprised of both Gay and Straight Republicans in Miami Dade County. We believe in limited government, a strong national defense, free markets, low taxes, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. Log Cabin Republicans represents an important part of the American family—taxpaying, hard-working people who proudly believe in this nation’s greatness. We also believe all Americans have the right to liberty and equality. We believe equality for LGBT Americans is in the finest tradition of the Republican Party. We educate our Party about why inclusion wins. Opposing gay and lesbian equality is inconsistent with the GOP’s core principles of smaller government and personal freedom.
