The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce is the first Chamber in the state of Florida and one of the first in the nation to recognize the LGBT community as a major component of their membership. The contribution of the gay and lesbian business community within our city and surrounding area is major driver to our local economy. As the mission of the Chamber is to drive economic growth for the Greater Fort Lauderdale community, it was recognized that the gay and lesbian community needed to be included in a manner to unite and connect, giving an inclusive voice to continue to attract new gay and lesbian owned businesses.
This year we welcome new Board Chairman Geph Scarr of Scarr Insurance Group, he, along with a dynamic group of individuals on the Board of Directors, are looking forward to promoting LGBT businesses and helping them grow. The first half of 2015 Fort Lauderdale has already seen many successful GLBX events with the most recent being the sold out Luncheon held at the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale last month. The focus of this event was to highlight Equality Florida’s “Equality Means Business Florida Report. Over 75 business leaders attended the luncheon allowing local key businesses to be educated while making invaluable business connections. Under Geph’s leadership the GLBX is looking forward to second half of the year with monthly After Hours mixers and another Luncheon focused on protecting their business from the perils of “Cyber Crime” and how businesses can protect themselves.
The GLBX is also finalizing the details for the year’s most anticipated event: “Artopia – Bridging Communities through the Arts” which is expected to be another sold out event attended by local business leaders and influential individuals throughout Broward County in October. Led by Board Member Michael Faerber, Artopia showcases how Broward County’s professional and cultural communities unite to celebrate our unique diversity that empowers our local economy to prosper. More details to come and information how you can be a part of this premier function.
