After playing characters ranging from transgender woman to psychotic killer, this "Suicide Squad" actor may have a new role to take on — and will have to fill Tom Cruise's shoes.

Oscar-winning Jared Leto may be playing Lestat, a bisexual vampire, in the upcoming remake of the horror classic "Interview with the Vampire," according to Pink News.

In the 1994 flick, Cruise filled the role of Lestat. According to Independent, author of the original novel Anne Rise wasn't satisfied — at first. But after she saw him, the Independent reports her change of mind: "From the moment he appeared, Tom was Lestat for me."

With the remake's script finished, writer-director Josh Boone is clear about who he wants to cast for the role.

"Lestat - there can only be one. #JaredLeto" writer-director Josh Boone, who is co-writing the remake, said via Twitter.

The actor won his Oscar in 2014 for his role of Rayon, a transgender woman with AIDS, in the movie "Dallas Buyers Club."

“And this is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS and to those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love," he said during his Oscar speech. "Tonight I stand here in front of the world with you and for you. Thank you so much and goodnight.”
