Rumors of an LGBT relationship in Deadpool 2 ended up being true.
The film’s character Negasonic Teenage Warhead reveals in the movie she is dating fellow mutant superhero Yukio, according to PinkNews. The character, played by out actress Brianna Hildebrand, previously did not reveal her sexuality in the first movie of the series.
“Growing up in a fairly religious household I knew not everyone would be as comfortable with who I was as who I was, and it wasn’t until middle school that I realised how many people would feel the need to put a label on me, and throughout high school I really struggled with that,” she said. “I didn’t know which group I belonged to.”
The characters do not have a major role in the film’s plot as a couple, but are acknowledged as Deadpool as a “cute couple.” Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, has previously said that he would like to play around with Deadpool’s sexuality.
“I think [Deadpool’s sexual interest in men] could be played up more,” he said. “He’s an outsider in every way, shape, and form.”
Shatterstar, a character who is bisexual in the comics, also made an appearance in the movie. The character’s sexuality was not explicitly stated or discussed in the film.
