William Green, Broward County Health Care Services Administrator, has been with the county for 13 years working with disenfranchised communities and ensuring that they have equitable access to healthcare.
“Historically, the LGBT community has faced issues of access to affordable healthcare,” Green said.
Green and staff focus on the delivery of care to minority populations, including working with more than a dozen community-based providers. On top of that, they are also working to help people enroll in the new Affordable Healthcare Act marketplace. Agencies throughout the county are available to help people navigate the website and answer any questions they may have about the new law.
“We know that people who have resources have access, but there are certain communities that don’t have access,” Green said about healthcare. “That’s one of the things that I really want to work with providers and community-based organizations to make sure… that they provide outreach to the LGBT community.”
