The Broward Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who was killed last week in an October 9th scooter accident in the 100 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard as Michael Rothman, 57, of Fort Lauderdale.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Rothman was bypassing traffic at 5:20 p.m. that was stopped for a red light on eastbound Oakland Park Boulevard at North Andrews Avenue when the fatal accident occurred.
When the light turned green, the handlebar of Rothman’s 2016 American Electric Superfly scooter struck the flatbed of an eastbound Peterbilt tow truck driven by Timothy Knight, 35, of Lauderdale Lakes, as Rothman tried passing, the Sheriff’s Office said. Rothman fell to the ground and the truck’s passenger side rear tire rolled over him.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported Rothman to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Knight was not charged.
The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Detective Michael Wiley at 954-321-4841.
