Some of the biggest names in music from the 1980’s will be in Fort Lauderdale to celebrate Pride. Headliners include Sheena Easton, Lisa Lisa and Tiffany. The 37th annual Pride South Florida event takes place noon to 7 p.m., March 1and 2 at Holiday Park, 1150 G. Harold Martin Drive
Fort Lauderdale. This year they’ve renamed the event Pride Fort Lauderdale.

Organizers anticipate a huge crowd. “We are expecting anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 people to be there,” said Marc Hansen of Pride South Florida.

The weekend kicks off with a special comedy show on Friday February 28 starring Bruce Vilanch and Judy Gold. The show, called “Big and Tall,” takes place at Parker Playhouse. Tickets are available here.

On Saturday, the entertainment kicks off at Holiday Park with actress/stand-up comedian/love goddess Judy Tenuta. Shewas the very first stand up to win Best Female Comedian at the American Comedy Awards. Tenuta has starred in her own HBO, Showtime, and Lifetime specials, and has been seen on every major talk show.

Also on Saturday’s agenda, former teen sensation Tiffany, whose hits include “I Think We’re Alone Now” and “I Saw Him Standing There.”

The fun doesn’t stop there. The Ms. Pride South Florida contest will be held once again in the War Memorial Auditorium. The preliminary rounds are will be held on Saturday and the finals take place on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, freestyle sensation Lisa Lisa takes the stage. She is one of the biggest Freestyle artists of the 80s with hits that included “Head to Toe,” ‘Lost in Emotion” “I Wonder If I Take You Home” and “All Cried Out.”

Then, headliner Sheena Easton will wow the crowd. She rose to fame in the 1980’s with hits like “Morning Train,” “For Your Eyes Only” and “Sugar Walls.”

Easton remains the only recording artist to score Top-10 singles on the five major U.S. Billboard singles charts, including pop, country, dance, adult contemporary and R&B. It was a feat she accomplished amid recording multiple hits in the United States and the U.K., performing popular duets with Kenny Rogers and Prince. She’s sold 20 million albums worldwide.

There will be non-stop entertainment including: The Ladies from Lipps, Church Holy Spirit of Song, Shadina, The South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble, Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus & other special Entertainment.

“There will be lots of great festival food items and this year Pride South Florida has made sure that there will be new and healthier food options available to the attendees,” said Hansen.
