Donald Trump has been called many things over the years. Unfortunately the name-calling is not yet over.

President Trump’s actions over the last six to eight weeks since Election Day have crossed the line from being the rants of a poor loser to being criminal activity seeking to bring down the democratically elected government of the United States of America. Such illegal activity is better known as treason, and unfortunately for this country, we have a sitting president who is now a traitor to this great nation.

Trump’s hour-long phone call made to Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger this past Sunday is the latest dishonest attempt to bring down the government of the United States of America.

Donald Trump has tried over and over again to gain some legal footing in his attempt to overthrow our legally elected government. He has invited Republican election officials from various states to the White House where he tried to bully them to change election results. He has filed so many lawsuits it is now hard to keep track of them all, with no actual validation of his delusional claims. He has arm twisted Republican office holders on every level of government to join his coup d’état with no great success.

The United States Supreme Court, in which he recently stacked to his benefit, granted him no victory. But yet here we are on Jan. 6 with the last act left to Congress to finalize the legitimate change of power in the greatest democratic country, and we have a sitting president committing unlawful acts. Very scary indeed.

Unfortunately Trump is not alone. Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Joshua Hawley and other members of the United States Congress who join the ranks of this coup must also be held accountable for their actions. These elected officials who took an oath to defend and protect our Constitution, now overlook the rule of law and join ranks with a traitor looking to overthrow the legally elected president of the United States of America. Trump and his fellow gang members are seeking to destroy our great nation, our constitution and our democratic process.

The time for patience is over, the time for waiting till Jan. 20 is over, and the time for turning a blind eye to criminal activity is over. Sedition and coercion lead a long list of possible offenses. We deserve action and we deserve better.

All those who died for this country defending democracy deserve better, all those who work every day to protect this great nation deserve better, all those government officials who choose loyalty to our Constitution over Trump deserve better, and we as Americans deserve better.

Thankfully there are many Republican leaders who are committed to protecting this great nation. Senator Mitt Romney called this latest activity by the president, “an egregious ploy that dangerously threatens our Democratic Republic.” Senator John Cornyn of Texas stated, “You had your day in court, over 60 different lawsuits in state courts, you had a chance to appeal those to the Supreme Court, and as I read the law once a state certifies its electoral vote its conclusive.”

Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger stated at the end of his phone conversation, “Respectfully Mr. President, what you are saying is just not true, the truth will come out.”

Let the truth come out. Donald Trump lost the election. That truth should have been acknowledged weeks ago. Instead we have a sitting president who looks to strong arm election officials into falsifying election results instead of supporting the legal and rightful successor to be sworn in comes Jan. 20.

Meanwhile the country spirals deeper into a COVID resurgence with no national leadership steering the disastrous first stages of mass vaccination for our citizens. Perhaps this out-going administration could have spent the last eight weeks working on a national vaccination strategy instead of plotting to overthrow our democratic process. I guess that would have been expecting way to much from a president who cares only about himself, his finances, and holding on to power at all cost.

One day soon we will be on the road to a national vaccination policy, closer to putting this pandemic behind us and finally rid of this national nightmare called Donald Trump.

Here’s to brighter days America.
