Aubrey Plaza came out in an interview as bisexual, admitting to having a 'huge' crush on a former co-star.
Speaking with The Advocate, Plaza let her sexuality slip after being asked if she gets hit on by girls.
"Oh, yeah. I don’t mind. I know I have an androgynous thing going on, and there’s something masculine about my energy," she said in the interview. "Girls are into me — that’s no secret. Hey, I’m into them too. I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it."
Plaza has been associated with the LGBT community through her friends and family. Her sister, an aunt and an uncle of hers are all gay. She also has a gay best friend.
In Addicted to Fresno, Plazaa had to play a lesbian character with "Orange is the New Black" co-star Natasha Lyonne, who is straight in real life.
“[Taking on the role of a lesbian] was less about pretending to be a lesbian and more about portraying a human being with a massive crush on Natasha Lyonne’s character,” she said in The Advocate interview. “Natasha’s a friend, and she called me up, like, ‘Do you want to come do a movie and make out with me?’ I have a major crush on her in real life, so it was fun.”
In addition to revealing her sexuality and one of her crushes, Plaza also mentioned a connection with older gay men.
“My tastes are like an older gay man’s, and I think that’s who I really am. Like, I grew up obsessed with Judy Garland, and I was also obsessed with how much she meant to her following.”
